The Vivian and Stanley Reed Marine Show Review
In honor of the opening reception for the Stamford Art Association Vivian and Stanley Reed Marine Show this Thursday from 5:30-7pm, I am giving you a first look. Photographer and Soudwaters VP of Marine Operations Mike Bagley returns as the guest juror joined by UConn Stamford’s Debapriya Sarkar. Get ready to be visually transported to the beach and beyond!
Once again, the 26th Annual Marine Show showcases multiple interpretations of sea life and nautical themes created in different media types including sculpture, ceramics, photography, acrylic, oil, watercolor, and mixed media. SAA Social Media Manager and curator Casey Correa, hung a beautiful and diverse show that tells a story.
This year, the artwork is more contemporary, especially on the first floor of the gallery. On the second floor, there are more traditional seascapes and renderings of marine life. When I stopped by the gallery last week after hanging, I noticed that many of the artworks contain black, orange, earthy and warmer hues which is very different from previous years where many of the artworks contained a cooler color palette.

Artwork featured from top to bottom: Kaseleno’s Seagull, acrylic on canvas, Samantha Pensiero’s Atlantic Mackrell, a delightful and decor-friendly painting, Deborah Rauh’s mixed media sculpture Shipwreck, and Liza Kamen’s oil painting Shallows. The Marine Show is on view through August 20th. Gallery hours are 12-3pm Friday-Sunday.
