The Retrospective Jubilee Show of Sergey Stepanenko

Sergey Stepanenko Tattoo For Robot
Over the weekend, I visited Sergey Stepanenko’s Retrospective Jubilee Shoow at SPAG, the St. Philip’s Artists’ Guild housed in the Oakhill Mansion in Norwalk, Connecticut on the campus of St. Philip’s Church. Visitors enjoyed live piano music by Margaret Gianquinto, a musician and singer of the Golden Age and American Popular Song. If you have been following my Art Critic in 1 Minute series for a while, I am most familiar with Sergey’s Homage series inspired by Old Masters artists and paintings, created in contemporary Impressionist style. This exhibit included both his recent paintings along with earlier works in a variety of subject matter and sizes.
My favorite paintings in the show were his social commentary on the War in Ukraine, the impact on the youth, and the fear and dependence on AITattoo for Robot. I also enjoyed his recent still life paintings where he includes the subject matter that inspired him including a vintage typewriter.
