Music in the Woods

Restored theater offering a venue for artists to share their creative gifts and give back to the community

I was invited to a Music in the Woods Artist Meet Up in the Treetops Studio near the Mianus River State Park Preserve. The organization was founded by professional Harpist Lisa Tanenbaum. The mission of Music in the Woods Inc. is to enrich lives and bring people together through community, performance, education, and the gift of art.

Music in the Woods seeks to empower individuals and unite artists through charitable giving and musical collaboration. The organization is committed to reaching children who have limited access to art education, offering opportunities that inspire creativity and foster a lifelong love of art.

I met visual and performing artists of all ages who exhibited and performed their latest artwork. Cellist Gunnar Sahlin performed, preparing for his concert at the Granite Church in Redding, Connecticut and a “95 years-young” artist discussed her beautiful watercolor and acrylic pet portrait and still-life paintings. She still attends Zumba classes and aquatic aerobics.
Another artist Dr. Gulrukh Bala of Bombay, shared her experience of channeling the messages and downloads from a higher power when she paints. This is why she doesn’t sign her artwork. She painted beautiful, organic vibrant paintings representing hope around the time of Dolly Parton’s passing and the floods in Nepal.
