Meet the Members and Talented Artists of Stamford Art Association
Have you seen the new exhibit at Stamford Art Association the Member Show? This year the show was curated by SAA President, printmaker, and professional photographer Christine Irvin.
The Stamford Art Association Member Show on view thru February 12th, is a reminder of why local art organizations matter—not as stepping stones, but as ecosystems and pillars of the community. This exhibition doesn’t chase a single theme or trend; instead, it leans into plurality. Painting, photography, sculpture, and mixed media coexist in a way that feels less like a competition and more like a conversation and a celebration.
What stands out this year is the juxtaposition between colors, texture and subject matter. Many pieces show artists pushing beyond comfort—experimenting with scale, materials, and narrative. You feel a collective willingness to take risks, and to ask questions.
The Member Show functions as both a snapshot and a forecast. It captures where Stamford’s artist community is right now—thoughtful, technically skilled, and increasingly confident—while hinting at where it’s headed. For collectors, this is an ideal entry point: accessible work, strong voices, and the chance to support artists at pivotal moments in their practice.
My favorite artworks include photography by Melissa Santangelo Breakfast in Bed, and ** Good Boy Always by Victoria Kingsley**. Both artists capture the essence of their subjects, their dogs (Victoria’s Chihuahua is over 20 years old), and they communicate the love of their pets, using different media types. Gallery Operations and Communications Manager, Casey Correa MFA, hung the artwork resulting in a strong exhibit by showcasing these juxtapositions.
This exhibition is about presence and highlighting regional and local talent all under one roof without a definitive theme. And that, ultimately, is what makes it worth seeing. Not local?
