Loft Artists Member Show Welcomes Fall!
The Loft Artists Association welcomes Fall with its Member Recent Work Show in the front and rear galleries. The middle gallery features Colombian artist Rosa Colon’s solo exhibition I have reviewed last week to welcome Hispanic Heritage Month.
Ten artists are exhibiting in the Member Show: Soledad Bence, Maria Friscia, Chantal Disler, Rita Ghandour, Joyce Grasso, Dorothy McClure, Erica Stoller, Emi Subovtosky, Almudena Vicens, and Anna Kuchel-Rabinowitz. This year, I noticed the show contains predominantly abstracts, and a few of the artists are exhibiting smaller more experimental artworks. Because member shows often do not have themes, artists are not restricted by a particular subject matter.
Erica Stoller creates abstract moving wall sculptures that sway when visitors walk by or when the fan in turned on. Erica uses materials including cardboard, recycled paper and hardware to suggest impermanence and that eventually, the artwork will “break down” or get taken apart by the artist.
Almudena’s monotype prints are inspired by landforms and cartography. See Mapping Life II pictured above. The colors are “earthy” and the texture is grainy which reminds me of very old maps featuring islands. Almudena uses white frames for her prints so that the viewer can focus solely on the texture and color of the artwork.
I did a double take when I walked by Anna Kuchel-Rabinowitz’s pigment transfer print. I thought is was a collage. Anna has created several mixed-media artworks for previous exhibitions. My favorite element of this print is the rich plum and burgundy color palette. I enjoy how the flowers appear to explode out of the artwork.
Artist Maria Friscia’s paintings are impressionist inspired abstract landscapes primarily containing blues and greens. The small taps of the brush render the foliage and greenery surrounding the water. Her diptych What the Water Keeps is very home decor friendly because the artwork is calming and serene.
