Edges and Atmospheres
The Stamford Art Association Townhouse Gallery welcomes Edges & Atmospheres on the 2nd floor, featuring the artwork of abstract watercolorist and cold wax painter Rebecca Dunn, floral painter and Kelly Edwards, gallery founder of the Arbor Gallery in Carmel, New York, abstract painter Matthew Franz, and city and landscape painter Jessica Porter. Their artistic styles couldn’t be more different.
The curation of their artworks on the wall to create a visual dialog is what inspires and engages visitors. On one wall, Rebecca Dunn’s watery abstracts with geometric symbols alternate (Top, Illusion of Control, watercolor and cold wax) with Kelly Edwards’ florals which remind me of Victorian stationary or antique flower seed packets, with the muted color palette (below, Harbinger watercolor and ink) . On the other wall, Matthew Franz’s bright and vibrant abstracts (featured I am Here Now (Hold the Edges)) would give fashion designer Emilio Pucci a run for his money. His paintings alternate with Jessica Porter’s geometric cityscape and landscape paintings. Jessica uses almost psychedelic and un-natural colors to depict buildings, bodies of water, and trees. See artwork 2nd from bottom SoHo New York City, an acrylic on canvas.
