As I See It: The 1st Solo Exhibition of Jena Maric
Jena Maric’s exhibition As I See It at the Stamford Art Association Townhouse Gallery on 39 Franklin Street in Stamford, Connecticut is now open through May 14th.
This is Jena’s first solo exhibition featuring a body of work spanning the last five years including collage art, paintings, and pastel drawings explores the diverse landscapes of her life—from the beaches and old mill towns of her current home in Connecticut to New York City where she was raised.
At the opening reception, Jena explained her drawings and paintings vs collages are like “two alternate personalities.” Her collages inspire the viewer to ponder societal commentary and her still life’s include forgotten and/or sentimental objects and subjects. One of my favorites is Timeworn Baby Shoes, a rendering of the artist’s shoes from when she was a baby. Boys on the Beach pictured below has the same blue color palette, and includes her drawings with collage capturing movement, energy, and mood. If you have been following me or my Art Critic in 1 Minute series for a while, you will notice I gravitate towards artworks featuring oranges in reds. In this show, I immediately noticed the artworks in blues and grays.
Reviews of Art Critic in 1 Minute videos will be on Instagram and YouTube soon! SAA Gallery hours are 12-3pm Friday-Sunday.
