An New Artspace comes to the “203” (Fairfield County)

Haitian-American artist and board member at The Stamford Art Association Jean Benoit has curated a new Gallery, the 203 Art Space in the Stamford Town Center occupying an old clothing store. Even the former dressing rooms are adorned with art including Jean’s paintings like this Equine artwork below.
Art Critic in 1 Minute reviews of the 203 Art Space have been released. I recognized many of the artworks and a few of the works I have reviewed in previous exhibitions. However, at least 3 or 4 artists I never have heard of until the grand opening. Amy Bildner’s Flourish reminds me of vintage packaging of Yves Saint Laurent Opium perfume. Another artist and I were intrigued by this painting. We couldn’t keep our eyes off the artwork.
Artist Elisa Groglio debuted her new abstract of a Tiger Lily (she is known for her futuristic nudes and fantasy florals) and I purchased one of her earlier paintings of an iris that I had reviewed in one her first exhibitions at the Stamford Art Association.

The subject matter and media used is very diverse. 203 includes artwork with a social commentary Maize by Elisa Groglio’s husband furniture designer and artist Ilya Narizhnyy  of NZYY Design, painted 3 executives in suits who lost their humanity. The ears of corn take the place of their human faces because they pump and promote genetically modified foods making Americans sick. This is a commentary on Big Ag, Big Pharma, and the Government.

When we are sick, we are easier to control… This may be a bit morbid. I enjoy that 203 Art Space welcomes all forms of expression. The artwork is not watered down and there is “something for everyone.”
There will be more exhibitions, community events, and workshops in the future at 203. The current show is on view through April 18th.>
